Let us pray in thanksgiving for the life of Br. David L. Henderson, SJ, who died on Friday, March 6, 2015, at Colombiere Center in Clarkston, Mich. He was 71 years old.  May he rest in peace.

Dave graduated from Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill., in 1961. Before entering the Society, he studied at the University of Notre Dame from 1961 to 1963 and was in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1965 to 1971. After entering the Society, Dave obtained a bachelor's degree in philosophy (with a minor in religious education) from the University of Detroit (1975). From 1977 to 1981, he studied theology at the Jesuit School of Theology in Chicago. In 1986, Dave changed grades from scholastic to brother.

Dave spent most of his time as a Jesuit teaching and counseling students and managing facilities. During his regency, Dave taught religious education at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati (1975-1977). He spent 13 years as a student counselor at Loyola Academy (1982-1985 and 1986-1996). Dave was instrumental in rehabbing the original Cristo Rey Jesuit High School building in Chicago in time for its opening day in August 1996. He then served as the facilities manager at Cristo Rey for 13 years (1996-2009).

In addition to working with students and managing facilities, Dave spent a year as an assistant to the rector and minister at Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago (1981-1982) and a year assisting Br. Joe Rastetter, SJ, in rehabbing buildings among the poor in Cincinnati (1985-1986). He was an auxiliary consultor for the Chicago Province (1979-1980 and 1991-1995). Mr. Henderson was at St. Xavier High School when I attended from 1973-1977. He was always willing to listen and lend gentle and kind advice. Mr. Mitchell C. Pacwa (now FR.) and Mr. Michael Sparough (also now FR.) were at St. X. while I was there. I miss you sir, but glad to hear you made it to "Brother". – Tim C. Watson '77
