In Memoriam: Fr. Raymond A. Dunne, SJ

Fr. Raymond A. Dunne, SJ  was born on August 29, 1919, in Chicago, Illinois, and entered the Society of Jesus on August 8, 1937, at Milford, Ohio. He was ordained on June 13, 1950, at West Baden College in southern Indiana, and took final vows on August 15, 1954. Father Dunne graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago before joining the Jesuits in 1937.   As a Jesuit, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Latin from Loyola University Chicago, Licentiate Degrees in Philosophy and Theology from West Baden College, and a Masters’ Degree in Classics from Xavier University.

During Regency Fr. Dunne taught Latin and English at the University of Detroit High School (1942-1943, 1945-1947). After ordination he taught: Theology at the University of Detroit (1951-1952); Latin and Greek at the Milford Novitiate (1953-1963); and Latin, Religion, Greek, and Spanish at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School (1963-1978). Father Dunne also was a spiritual father of the Juniorate program at Milford Novitiate (1957-1963).

After he left teaching, Fr. Dunne worked in various pastoral ministries. He performed parish ministry at St. Anne Parish in Alpena, Michigan, (1979-1980) and St. Edward Parish in Mendon, Michigan (1980-1981). He was an associate pastor at St. Basil Parish in Chicago, Illinois, (1981-1986), Immaculate Conception Parish in Waukegan, Illinois, (1986-1991), and St. Alphonsus Parish in Prospect Heights, Illinois, (1991-2005). He was a pastoral minister at Loyola Academy in Wilmette (2005-2007) before moving to Colombiere Center in 2007.
