Ignatius House 2018-19 Cohort Applications Open

April 16, 2018 — Applications for the 2018-19 cohort of Ignatius House in Cincinnati, Ohio, are now open to young adults who are interested in faith-based intentional community living

Members of this young adult lay intentional community make a one-year commitment to faith development grounded in Ignatian Spirituality, ongoing service in Cincinnati, and building community while maintaining their current full-time employment. With the guidance of a part-time Community Coordinator, participants are invited to grow in their faith and are challenged to consider what it means to be companions in the pursuit of justice. By living together  and through their visible commitment to Jesuit values and mission, this community also serves as a gathering space for other persons inspired to understand how to incorporate a life of faith and justice into young adulthood.

Members of Ignatius House do not need to be Catholic, but they must be interested and willing to engage in faith sharing and faith formation based in Ignatian Spirituality, as well as a commitment to service and learning about social justice issues in Cincinnati. They must also have the ability to set aside time in their weekly schedule for community activities, reflections, dinners, and 4-6 hours per month at a service site. Members are encouraged to remain single during their time at Ignatius House.

Ignatius House members make an ongoing commitment to direct service in the city. Placements include work in transitional housing, social entrepreneurship, addiction recovery, and restorative justice among others. Combined with communal reflections, this service experience helps members grow in their understanding of major justice issues present in Cincinnati and learn how they can respond individually and as a community.

The home of Ignatius House is the former rectory building next to St. Xavier Church in Cincinnati. Members actively participate in community formation through regular prayer and reflection, shared meals, and other house gatherings. Each member signs a lease and pays monthly through their outside employment.

This is an exciting opportunity for young adults to live Jesuit values together while making a difference in the community. All are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until July 10. The 2018-19 cohort is scheduled to move into the community in early August.
